DVD REVIEW:
For those who don't
know what the story is about. After a major earthquake in
Tokyo, the Genom Corp. makes Boomers. Robots that will do a
lot of the work that humans don't like doing. From
waitressing to roadside construction. The Genom Corp. has a
vision for their Boomers to co-exist with humans and thus they
create Boomers that go crazy and attack humans. The AD
Police's job is to stop the Boomers but they are underpowered.
Thus the Knightsabers, 4 machineclad outlaws takes the Boomers
out. The Knightsabers are actually 4 people consisting of a
rock singer, Priss. An AD Police computer hacker, Nene.
Lina, a office lady and the leader, Sylia who owns a lingeree shop
but her father was the creator of the Boomers and she has some
unknown vendetta against the Boomers. Thus the story of BGC:
Tokyo 2040.
In this third DVD
volume, you get to see Priss confront her feelings about Nene's
part of the group and that she should best not have Nene around
her. Very cool episode!
I was a huge fan of
the first Bubblegum Crisis OAV series and when I found out that a
new BGC will be coming out which is not a continuation but a whole
new different BGC (like what "El Hazard" and "Tenchi"
is doing right now), I didn't know if I should react with anger or
what.
I decided to check
it out and wow! I think I enjoy this version of BGC more
than the previous version. The character designs and
storylines are pretty cool!
It's pretty hip to
watch and the characters are very likeable.
As for special
features, like most anime DVD's, they don't really have anything.
This one has character profiles and ADV trailers. Nothing
else.
So, knowing that
most anime don't have special features, I'm going to let this sly
on this DVD because the anime is so good! The series is
about 20 episodes long, so expect to buy 5 DVD's total.
As for the children
rating. BGC is action, adventure and it has it's share of
violence. The Knight Sabers take on Boomers (robots) that go
wild and attack humans. This was shown on Japanese TV but it's
your choice if you want your children to see it.
