DVD REVIEW:
What can I say but this
anime has really caught my attention. First, it revolves around
music and electric guitars and second, it's very humorous and
fun to watch.
Unfortunately, the first
maybe what pushes people away from watching this anime. Like "Macross
7", an anime theme revolving around a musician who can play
really well to defeat the bad guys is enough to turn anime fans
away. Also, the anime is of course using some digital technology
that may turn hard core purists off.
Fortunately, I enjoy
music and I associate with a few whose lives revolve around their
electric guitar, so I'm a bit biased towards this anime.
The anime revolves around
an former popular electric guitarist Oji Tanaka who now is married,
has a child and is a businessman. He hates how his life is going
and all that he has to remember his life is his flying V (electric
guitar) which his wife is trying to get rid of.
Oji Tanaka misses his
life but knows he must go on to the next level of his wife despite
him not enjoying it. That is until people from space try to look
for this former electric guitarist and are in need of his talented
music skills to defeat the enemies in outer space. Sounds weird.
I know but throw in a trio of bumbly, sexy female trouble makers
and sexy secretary Layla Yuki (disguised as a secretary but from
outerspace) and the jealous wife and curious kid, "Black
Heaven" is an anime that is just pure fun to watch.
The second volume of
this DVD comes with three episodes. I didn't watch the dubbed
English version but the Japanese with English subtitles was a
a blast to watch. The DVD also comes with the creditless OP/ED
theme and a photo gallery.
In the second volume,
Tanaka finally learns the truth why the aliens want him to play
the guitar. The storyline keeps getting better and better with
each episode.
Give this DVD a chance.
If you love music and electric guitars, you will especially enjoy
this anime.
