DVD REVIEW:
When
HAKKENDEN, LEGEND OF THE DOG WARRIORS first came out on video
tape, I was mesmerized by the series. I really loved the anime
and sometimes I would wait long periods of time for the US release
and unfortunately I had to go back and forth with the Japanese
and English dub version of the series because I couldn't find
it all in complete Japanese subtitled format.
But
I remember watching this series and there was a change of animation.
It looked very nice and fluid and then all of a sudden things
looked very simple. The rumor has it that they changed art houses
and thus the two different anime styles.
Whichever
was the case, the strongpoint of Hakkenden was the growing of
the series through each episode and how each warrior comes together
and the stories of each warrior and how they relate with one another
to take down evil.
It's
a beautiful and complicated story that I come to love.
The
DVD includes all 12 episodes + the recap extra video. The only
thing that I wish they included but they didn't (in order to give
the full A+) include the music video that was released after the
series ended. It was a video compilation that was used for raves
but they released it and they should of included it in the DVD
(unless it's hidden, which I haven't found yet).
All
in all a great anime series for those who are looking for an anime
with a good samurai based storyline.
